Becoming Christian

United Methodists share a common heritage with all Christians.  Becoming Christian means accepting and professing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

To see our foundational beliefs, link to umc.org, click on OUR FAITH and scroll down to OUR CHRISTIAN ROOTS.

You don't have to be a member of St. Paul in order to participate, serve, and feel at home here.

If you want to discuss becoming a member, though, any pastor would love to have that conversation with you at any time.

Becoming a United Methodist

“A Methodist is …one who loves his God with all his heart, with all his soul, with all his mind, and all his strength.” John Wesley, 1703-1791.  Again for our Wesleyan Heritage, link to umc.org, click on OUR FAITH and scroll down to OUR WESLEYAN HERITAGE

Becoming a Member of St. Paul

By Profession Of Faith And Baptism

If you are not a baptized Christian, the Pastor will be happy to discuss the meaning of the Sacrament with you in your home or at the church at your convenience.

By Transfer From Another United Methodist Church

Please inform one of our pastors and we will request that your membership be transfered. It is not necessary for you to write your former church. St. Paul Church will handle the details of transfer for you.  You will be asked to take the one vow taken by all members of the United Methodist Church: “Will you be loyal to The United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service.?”

By Transfer From Another Christian Denomination

The process is very much like the one above. Since you are already baptized and confirmed, these steps will NOT be repeated because we recognize your baptism. You will be asked to take the one vow taken by all members of the United Methodist Church: “Will you be loyal to The United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service.?”

  How  to “Join Without “Joining”

If you are a United Methodist with membership in a church in another city, state, or country and wish to retain membership in your “home” church, you may become an Affiliate Member of St. Paul Church. This grants you pastoral oversight, fellowship and participation at St. Paul Church.

Members of other Christian denominations may elect to become Associate Members under the same conditions.
