Rick Brooks - Senior Pastor
The Rev. Dr. Rick Brooks, a native of Raymond, MS, has been an ordained elder in the Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church since 1990. He has been pastor of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Tupelo since 2008, which sustained heavy tornado damage on April 28, 2014, and just recently completed an extensive rebuilding program.
Prior to serving in Tupelo, Dr. Brooks was pastor of Main Street United Methodist in Bay St. Louis (2002-2008) before and after Hurricane Katrina, which continues to serve as a touchstone for receiving and sharing the gifts of vital community. Rick is married to Lynn Loflin Brooks (28 years), who found her niche in public education as a media specialist. Rick and Lynn have two children, Catherine (26) of Slidell, Louisiana, and John Wesley, a special needs son born in 1995. Rick is the son of Fred (deceased) and Sue Brooks, and the brother of Rebecca Brooks Prewitt, both of Clinton, Mississippi.
A graduate of Raymond High School, Hinds Community College, and Mississippi State University, Rick has advanced degrees from Candler School of Theology, Emory University (MDiv), and Columbia Theological Seminary (DMin), with a
focus on Church and Ministry. He loves preaching, teaching, and connecting with people in new ways with the love of Christ. His interests include spiritual direction, reading, singing, golf, and running and walking with Gambit, the family Australian Shepherd. The Brooks family is thrilled to be returning to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and look forward to living and serving in Ocean Springs with the people of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
MJ Kirby - Associate Pastor
Just a girl. wife. mom. sister. clergy fashionista. I'm Learning. Living. Becoming. Transforming. Returning to God one vulnerable breath at a time. My heart is tied to my husband, Eddie Kirby, and our 4 darling children: Eddie Jr., Millsaps; Mosie, Chloe & Duke all at Ocean Springs High. (In 2010 the second oldest of our then 5 Kirby kids, Jeremy, died suddenly.) When I'm not doing life with the fam, you can find me pouring into St. Paul students and families. I LOVE youth! I love their passion, brutal honesty, and demand for authenticity from adults. They keep me hopping for sure, but in a good way! There is a great team of student leaders and adults in place here that make St. Paul Youth THE place for Youth! Sometimes it feels like herding wet cats or like I've suddenly become the Master of a crazy 3 Ring Circus, but MOST times it feels like a fabulous blessing to get to journey (through the mountains and the valleys) with so many amazing youth and their families. I've been doing this Youth Ministry gig for 20 years, and still placing new tricks in my tool belt daily. I'm also the visionary/ preaching pastor for our NEW Live @ 11:11 service. Check it out sometime. Oh, and I blog...about grief, life, love, death, clergy stuff and other musings at 7 Piece Puzzle. #peace
Kim Bos - Director of Children's Ministries
From my hometown on the beautiful beaches of Western Michigan, to studying abroad in Sweden, to working to strengthen communities in Detroit, to South Dakota teaching on a Reservation, to Chicago answering God's call into ministry, I'm always up for a good adventure, and I have never found a shortage of places to go, people to meet, and stories to hear. I've been married to my husband, Wil, for a little more than a year, and coincidently have lived on the coast the same amount of time (I’m a military spouse!). I'm a Michigan State alumna (the other MSU!) and last spring, I finished up my Masters degree at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary. I joke that I'm on the slow road into commissioning (It will be a few years). Until then, I am excited to use my background in camping ministries, teaching, and theology to be in ministry with the kids and families of St. Paul. I love knitting, baking, painting, dance parties, movies, softball, and getting and sending snail mail. You can also catch my sporadic blogging at http://holyknittinkitchen.wordpress.com/
